Factions

The different significant factions that work in the galaxy that an adventurer might encounter.

The greater alliance

The primary government of the sphere-faring humanoids it is led by council comprised of an elf, dwarf, goblin, and a head of state elected from a government without a permanent seat. Their military branch is comprised of the advanced recon commandos and the state mages who are given special benefits within the territories overseen by the alliance

The adventurers league

The organization that regulates adventuring quests within civilized space. They provide benefits to journeyman adventurers and keep track of the most successful adventurers. Despite adventuring being a respected profession within modern society they have lately been coming under a lot of scrutiny from the ARCs and gnomerian shipping company for their lack of professionalism.

The spelljammer guild

The organization is responsible for mass-producing, regulating, and monopolizing the creation of the spell jammer, a sailing ship that makes travel between interstellar spheres possible. Run by the mercane out of their headquarters in the elemental plane of chaos, it is easily one of the most influential organizations in the multiverse and is thus very protective of its brand.

The gnomerian shipping company

After the Gnomerian Republic declared independence from the elven dominion, it needed to secure shipping lanes to ensure its future, so it created the Gnomerian shipping guild. Creating a military of clockwork soldiers to protect their goods, the system was so effective they began making contracts for foreign nations. As it currently stands, it is the second most influential guild in the galaxy, next to the spelljammer guild.

The Jade Empire

An isolationist nation comprised of people allegedly connected to the kami (divine spirits with a history predating the gods). After the Founding war they have had little interaction with the outside world outside of a few guilds which are given dispensation to trade with others which has given what little is known of the government. They are ruled by an immortal enich called the white jade emperor. Their day-to-day affairs are governed by a military leader called the Shogun, a bureaucracy led by five judges and 41 sages, a police force called the immortal lotus, and a spy network led by the Kage. The lack of interaction has sparked much public interest in the nation, leading to much speculation and hearsay among the common man.

New Draconia

The current nation ruling over dragon kin after the revolution. The massive population was reformed into a caste system under Galahadras the lesser and has been spending its time clearing out the remaining dragon warlords within its territory. There is much debate over the ethics of the current government's methods, particularly in the case of its treatment of the existing dragons, however they have yet to violate any of the agreements made with the alliance during the war so there has yet been a need to address it according to the government.

The hoard

The elves uplifted the orcish hoard to fight against the dragons and the giants during the war. After the war they were given a choice either join the alliance by losing the unapproved gods and traditions they practiced or return to their homeworld. The orcs did neither and preceded to claim the territory around their homeworld. While there is no official state of war between the alliance and the hoard due to the lack of recourses following the last great war, there have been numerous skirmishes between the hoard and the red handover territory. And with the increasing arms race in the wake of the great war, a battle with the hoard seems all but inevitable.

The red bank

The Red Bank, the most powerful faction within the Dragon Mafia, is the number one producer of weapons and drugs in the galaxy. They are well known for being ruthless and vengeful against those who cross them. Their leader, Sos Jun, came to prominence after the sacking of Draconia, raising the Red Bank to the most powerful criminal organization operating out of the material plane.

The screwtape syndicate

Known as the most notorious criminal organization in the multiverse, they are an organization of devils that deal with all kinds of illicit practices. The leader is a pit fiend aristocrat by the name of Screwtape, said to be Asmodeus' right-hand man. They primarily deal in the elemental and outer planes, so they are not a great concern to the people of the material, though no less dangerous.

The rakshasa territories

The only nation within the material plane that is comprised of fiendish creatures they are a shadowy and secretive people who are said to be man-eaters. rumors abound that they have influence over the other nations within the straight but if these allegations are true the rakshasa have covered their tracks well.

The ouroboros authority

A nation with a caste system comprised of yuan-ti, medusas, and other snake peoples, they are primarily isolationist but have been known to disregard the sovereignty of other nations. Thankfully they seem mostly concerned with territorial disputes with the rakshasa and new draconia but rumors of a flourishing black market have drawn attention to their beginning realm.

The 4 genie families

The elemental plane's most valuable export is residuum, a material which, among other things, is used in the mass production of spelljammers. The four genie families monopolize the harvesting and sale of residuum, making them obscenely wealthy. While they have dealings with the material planes, their attention is primarily focused on the giants, who are exceptionally antagonistic towards them, and the spelljammer guild, who are their most significant source of income.

The empire of the hand

A dictatorship that rose to prominence during the last great war, it is ruled by the mysterious figure known as the whispered one. Little information comes out of the territory, but what does is very unsettling, from the harsh lives of its citizens to the great horrors that the ruling class casually commits. If not for their lack of hostilities and the presence of other more significant threats, It would most likely be the primary focus of the galactic community.

Hand Shadow

The Empire of Jotunheim

The nation of the giants is ruled by the demigod son of Kord, Ymir. The Great War was allegedly started by some slight against the giant's honor and only ended with the defeat of the nine dragon lords. It was commonly believed that after the defeat of the dragons, the giants would turn their wrath against the rest of the galaxy. But to the relief of many the giants saw the other humanoid races as inconsequential and instead turned their full attention to their colonies in the elemental planes.

Ancient Carvings
