Mystral Timeline

This is the history of Mystral as it is commonly known and taught throughout the galactic community.

Time immemorial

These events are recorded by later eras and are believed to be accurate; however, they do not know when precisely these events took place.

Earliest record

The earliest recorded event is the creation of the twin gods Pelor and Tharizdun by an entity called the luxon using the soul forge. Other gods, such as Mystra and her brothers, the lawful Titans, and the chaotic Primordials, would be the first to inhabit the world. They would later fight over the nature of the world, which would end with the creation of the first mortals. From this age of infancy, there would be five great mortal kingdoms to emerge, ruled by the three elven houses, the seven dwarven clans, the nine giant thanes, the nine dragon lords, and the thirteen human kings.

The war of sanity

During the universe's infancy, the gods and their creations came under siege by the great old ones from the far realm. The creators, led by Pelor, fought alongside their creations, led by the first adventurer, in the name of peace and sanity. The war would end with the death and then imprisonment of the great old ones within their capital city, R'lyeh. It was believed that evil had been defeated forever, and so it was not so. And so the prophets of Ragnarok foretold in their prophecy.

First great war of the nephilim

According to scholars, this was the first great war fought between mortals, specifically between the humans led by the famed king of heroes and the Nephilim led by Sargon the Great. According to legend, the war ended in a battle between the two kings, creating a valley from which the Nephilim kings would entomb their dead.

Founding of the knights of paladyne

According to legend, the Knights of Paladyne were founded by the saint queen Kristina Paladyne, to save the world from the stillborn god crusade.

The third great nephilim war

This is the last recorded instance of the Nephilim empire. Not much remains of the war other than that it was primarily fought between the king of heroes and Thruun, the impaler of men.

Ascension of the raven queen

The raven queen overthrows the previous god of death and ascends to become the current god of death.

The dark pantheon

Tharizduun creates the seed of elemental evil. He then takes his followers, leaves the pantheon, and proclaims dominion over the world from his capital of Durr Baan, forcing the rest of the gods to declare war.

The creation of the weave

Some time just before known history the gods mystra, ohgma, and morkesh created the arcanus which mystra would use to to create the weave so that mortals could grow and evolve their societies in preperation the coming war.

The dawn war (approximately 100,000 BSD-80,000 BSD)

The war between the pantheon of good and the pantheon of evil.

Creation of arcane magics (circa: 98,000 BSD)

Early in the war, the wizard Azuth was the first to thoroughly study the weave and create the basis for what is known today as arcane magic. He would invent potions, wands, and incantations before founding the Circle of Eight and the Worldtree Academy.

The shattering (circa: 90,000 BSD)

In a failed plot by Tharizdun to increase his power by consuming the stone of primordial chaos he instead caused the world to shatter in a great cosmic cataclysm. The heart of mechus would be used for mend the damage but as it could not fix the world entirely it was forced to form the material plane into the galaxy as it is known today.

The creation of the abyss (circa: 85,000 BSD)

During a battle between pelor and tharizdun pelor swipes the seed of elemental evil out of tharizdun's hand and falls into the endless abyss. The deeper it fell the more power it would accumulate and the more it would create until the realm was filled with demonic deformities of all kinds. Stuck in a cycle of endless creation it was eventually transformed the realm into the abyss as it is known today. The near endless creation of the abyss would then be turned over tharizdun's endless hunt for power.

The Betrayal (circa: 80,000 BSD)

At the height of the dawn war, Tharizdun was betrayed by one of his most trusted lieutenants and captured by the gods. Unable to strip him of his power, they imprisoned him at the bottom of the abyss in a sleep from which no god would be able to awake. Shortly after, the forces of evil sued for peace, and within the city of Sigil, the divine accord was quickly signed. Territory was divided with clear lines drawn for a cease fire across the multiverse. The evil-aligned planes could not invade the good-aligned planes and vice versa nor interfere with one another politics. And while the evil-aligned planes would quickly break out into a blood war to decide the next dark lord as a whole, the peace of the multiverse has been maintained to this day.

The age of knowledge (66,000 BSD-44,000 BSD)

History in this era is less cohesive because all civilizations were isolated on their planets and could only reach each other through the surviving roots of Yggdrasil. As a result, the only notable civilization to emerge on a cosmic scale was the famed Netherese empire.

The creation of the Mythalar (circa: 66,000 BSD)

The planet which gave birth to the netherese empire has been lost to time but what we do know is that it started with the invention of the mythalar a magical devise which revolutionised the study of magic. the result was a series of floating magocratic city-states that would travel the world.

The Mage war (circa: 54,300 BSD)

Eventually, a series of alliances were created between the jealous mages and a world war was inevitable. The mage war was reportedly as brutal as the modern war between the dragons and the giants but in the end would have a more drastic result. Once the war ended the world that had birthed them had been irreversibly devistated by the war yet they had been unified into a single people, the netherese.

The Founding of the Netherese empire (circa: 54,000 BSD)

With their world destroyed they began looking into means of interstellar and interplanar travel. While neither were as successful as the modern spelljammer they were enough to propel the netherese into the first interstellar empire in history. They conquered and subjugated many land bound races with ease and used them to feed the growth of their vast empire. Some revered them as gods, others as devils, and some as an opportunity to reach the stars. Regardless their trail through history was very clear and their effects on less developed societies were stark. And they believed the sun would never set on their great empire.

Karsus's folley (circa: 44,000 BSD)

For the longest time no one knew what had become of the netherese empire. One moment, they were the greatest civilization in history. The next, they vanished without a trace. Eventually, ruins around their floating cities and outposts could be found across the stars, but what little survived spoke to a fall as abrupt as the histories. Then adventures uncovered evidence for what is known as Karsus's. Apparently unknown to landwalkers was that they had been fighting a war with an unknown and powerful enemy. Then, one day, in an act of supreme hubris, the archmage Karsus conducted a spell to grant him the powers of a god so that he might vanquish his enemy. Unfortunately, the god whose power he meant to borrow was Mystra, whose power kept the weave of magic intact and functional. Here, power was returned to her, and magic was eventually restored, but it was too late by then. The cities of Netheril had fallen out of the skies and destroyed. What little remained was scattered to the wind and integrated into the terrestrial societies if at all. And thus the age of knowledge ended.

The invention of the spelljammer (circa: 18,000 BSD)

The discovery of the luxon beacons on the elven homeworld of Ovor lead to a renaissance of knowledge and art, culminating with the invention of the first modern spelljammer. Within the next few centuries the dwarves would do the same and eventually make contact with the elves prompting both societies to work towards the mass production of spelljammers.

The mass production of the spelljammer (circa: 14,000 BSD)

With contact made to various societies with the ability to make spalljammers a race for who could be the first to mass produce them had begun. Ultimately it was the mercane who discovered and patented a spell that could mass produce spelljammers on a galactic scale leading to the begining of the modern era.

The founding of the greater alliance (circa: 9,000 BSD)

With civilization growing due to the creation of sphere gates and tensions rising between the giant and dragon colonies in the inner planes, the elves and dwarves proposed the formation of a new galactic government in the mutual interest of all space-faring peoples.

The intigration of goblinoid society (circa: 5,000 BSD)

With hostilities rising from the expansionist red hand the alliance had no choice but to retaliate. The longer lived elves and dwarves had expected to be able to wait out the shorter lived goblinoids but found that their society was as resiliant as a longer lived species. This combined with their effective military had made them an bearable foe but possible a valuable ally. With some negotiations that involed ammendments to the constitutions policies and the red hand accepting the removal of certain gods from their pantheons the goblins were brought into the fold of the greater alliance.

Beginning of the Draco-jotun war (3,342 BSD)

With tensions between the dragon and giant empires escalating to their peak, the war between them finally began. Neither had considered the smaller races to be a considerable threat which had worked to their benefit in the past. However, once the war had started, they ignored borders and treaties to clamber for resources and mobility. And so the war turned into an absolute nightmare for all involved.

The uplifting of the orcs (859 BSD)

In an attempt to draft able bodies in the fight to preserve galactic peace, the elves broke from conversion. They uplifted the orc homeworld of Orthak without properly integrating them into society. While the elves would come to regret the decision, the choice was an effective one as the orc's hardy nature and numbers turned the tide against the giants and dragons enough for the alliance to regroup at the time.

The saking of draconia (0SD)

A massive rebellion had begun on the dragon's homeworld of draconia, culminating in an event known as the saking of draconia. The dragon lances, which had once been symbols of comradery between a dragon and his rider, was now a symbol of oppression and would become a symbol of revolution as they were used to hunt the dragons in mass. Once the ten days and nights of bloodshed had ended, the nine dragon lords were scattered, and the old draconian empire fell to pieces. Shortly after the giants began an invasion, destroying what was left of the empire without its leadership.

The treaty of darkhold (13 ASD)

Once the last of the dragon holdouts were destroyed, Galahandrus the lesser, leader of the draconian rebellion, sued for peace with the giants. Much to the surprise of the galaxy, the giants accepted the proposal. The commonly held belief was that once the dragons had been finished, the giants would claim their lands and turn to subjugate the rest of the galaxy. However, the Giants saw it differently. To them, the affairs of the small folk were not their concern, and their fight was with the giants. And now that their honor had been satiated, they would return to their lands and leave the dragon's vassals to manage what was left of the territory. Galactic society was both surprised and relieved. And for the last 500 years, a steady peace has been maintained throughout galactic society, with no one desiring to start another forsaken galactic war. Many believed that the war would evolve into the coming of Ragnarok, but thankfully they were wrong.
