Play style options
One of the goals with this site is to create new forms of play which dms can consistently rely upon and the play styles will hopefully be a reflection of that mentality.
Playstyle basics
Playstyle
-
Linear: start from lvl 1 and build everything from square one
-
Good for I just want to show up and punch things
-
Good for structured narrative
-
good for learning as you go
-
Not very complex until late-game
-
-
Ensemble: you get a specific number of levels and abilities that result in varying different levels of skill and ability (for baseline 10/20 for base levels, 10/20 for social standing, and 10/20 for magic items or innate abilities like skills or super powers)
-
(to measure wealth/social status)
-
1 is destitute (1 gold or 100 $)
-
5 is minor (3,000 gold or 10,000$)
-
10 is significant (30,000 gold or 50,000$)
-
15 is dramatic (300,000 gold or 500,000$
-
20 is exceptional (1,000,000 gold or 10,000,000$)
-
-
(To measure additional abilities/magic items)
-
1 for common
-
5 for uncommon
-
9 for rare
-
13 for very rare
-
17 for legendary
-
-
If all players like combat maybe try a different style
-
Works best when the dm and the players want to derive drama from sources other than the fighting
-
good for superhero style game
-
-
Horizontal: start with all your primary levels you will have and learn new skills as needed instead of gaining new levels
-
Great episodic format
-
Good if you want combat but also want options
-
Can be tricky to come up with different scenarios each time
